What should be my approach while in an interview for the armed forces?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

I am applying for the armed forces (army, navy, air force). As I have weak eye-sight I do not get to apply for many posts. If I am called up for the final selections which has interviews; what should be my approach, behavior and mind set? Should I act natural and like my own self. But I doubt that I’m not that kind of a guy which takes it too be there. So how shall I take it? What shall be my mentality and thought process?

Have an answer for these two questions.

1. Why do you want to join?

2. What do you want to do?

Don’t show up wearing an Alice in Chains t-shirt. Have a clean shave (loose any facial hair) and a decent haircut. Don’t worry, it will grow back if things don’t work out.

Give me an expample to differentiate Top down approach and bottom approach of software development?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Many times I get confused to distinguish top down and bottom up approach. Suppose I am considering C and C++ what are the points where I can focus on Bottom apporach of C and top down approach of C++.

in top down approach u first define the entire prblm, define the modules, then classes, objects and finaly the logical operaitons and codes r done. ie from the application level to the primitive level.

in botom up u first define a define a section or part and develop as such, and finaly combine to the whole program, as far as i kno..

How would you approach someone to sell their business?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Hi,

There is a small café which I really want to get hold of, how would you approach and ask the owner to sell it?

Letter templates would also be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Lina

Easy. Go upto them, introduce yourself, compliment them on the business and then ask if they would be interested in selling it to you.
Leave your details.

How did Mensel’s approach to answering scientific questions differ from that of his contemporaries?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

How did his novel approach contribute to his success in describing how traits are inherited?
What advantages did he enjoy by choosing to study the garden pea?
Describe three major concluding principles Mendel hypothesized from his work?
First question There is a misspelled word The question Is to read. How did Mendel’s approach to answering scientific question differ from that of his contemporaries?

Unlike Darwin, Gregor Mendel simplified the question he wanted to answer. Rather than asking “how do traits pass from parents to their offspring,” he pursued a more scientifically testable question, namely “can I describe and predict how one trait is passed to the next generation?” The answers he got by teasing the question apart illuminated the solutions to the more complex questions of inheritance. Through his meticulous experiments with peas, Mendel’s work began to reveal how complex traits are passed on, and at the nexus of Mendel’s and Darwin’s observations is a model by which “decent with modification” could arise.
The power of Mendel’s scientific approach can be seen in the work that led him to his Second Law, the law of independent assortment. The law of independent assortment states that different traits are inherited completely independently of one another. Yet how could Mendel have deduced this if he had no idea of the mechanism by which traits were inherited? When looking at two traits simultaneously, Mendel observed the ratio of dominant and recessive hybrids for each trait, and discovered that the ratio of traits in the plants from such crosses arose as 9:3:3:1. Namely, 9 offspring showed both dominant traits, 3 offspring showed one dominant and one recessive trait, 3 offspring showed the complementary dominant and recessive mix and 1 of every 16 progeny showed both recessive traits.

More of this question was answered in 2008 on this forum by oikos who said "Mendel probably fudged his data. He worked with seven different traits controlled by seven different loci, one on each of the seven chromosomes of the pea plant. There was no linkage because of this. The odds of doing this by picking the traits randomly are about one in ten thousand. It is likely that he threw out the data that did not conform to his expectations. Now that I’ve given you the ability to get a higher grade, you have to read your text and do the bulk of the work yourself, so you can learn what you are supposed to learn."

I have added the links below to assist you do what oikos advises, and hope that helps.

suppose you’re using an operant conditioning approach to teach someone how to use a?

7. Suppose you’re using an operant conditioning approach to teach someone how to use a
bow and arrow. You begin by teaching your student how to hold a longbow. Then you show
him how to maintain balance while holding the bow. Finally, you show him how to aim and
properly release the arrow toward a target at the correct moment. This operant conditioning
approach is called
A. approximation. C. partial reinforcement.
B. shaping. D. programmed learning.

Yahoo Answers is for people who want to expand their knowledge and understanding, not for getting others to do your homework for you.

Trying looking on the four words/phrases that you have given on Google, understanding what they each mean, then deciding for yourself which you think is the closest. That way you will have really learnt something.

what’s the best way to approach an essay prompt that is written as a Statement rather than as question?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

I am going to have a test in political science tomorrow and the professor said that the essay will be harder than usual because the prompt will not be in regular question/compare/contrast type. Rather it is going to be like a statement that I need to build on myself. That means no specific instructions, requests, questions, comparisons or anything whatsoever. Have you ever dealt with this before? What do you think is the best way to approach it?

statements contain ideas that are either true or false. State your reasons for either agreeing with the statement or why you don’t.

The statement will most probably be a quote from some famous person. Focus on the key words. The key words or ideas will relate to a particular subject you have studied.

The idea isn’t to trick you but to get you to show that you have thought about the issues raised in class. So focus on the unit materials and you will be okay.

What types of learning interventions must be used for children?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

What types of learning interventions are used by the following approach, "enhance learning opportunities for clients by using a wide array of effective methods that begin in childhood and endure throughout a lifetime"? What are the goals of these interventions?

I would say that this is asking for morals and manners.

For example learning to make friends and keep them, being kind and sharing. All skills we have to learn and you will see that some kids are better at others. It is all learn’t behaviors it does not come naturally to kids.

These are the skills we take through into adulthood, within our social life’s and our careers.

‘Social schema theory is a cognitive approach that excludes the social’. Discuss.?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

i’m really stuck on what this question even means… :( can anyone help me, pleeeease?

Cognitive representations of social objects are referred to as schemas. These schemas are a mental structure that represents some aspect of the world. They are organized in memory in an associative network. In these associative networks, similar schemas are clustered together. When a particular schema is activated related schemas may be activated as well. Schema activation may also increase the accessibility of related schemas in the associative network. When a schema is more accessible this means it can more quickly be activated and used in a particular situation. When related schemas are activated, inferences beyond the information given in a particular social situation may influence thinking and social behavior, regardless of whether those inferences are accurate or not. Lastly, when a schema is activated a person may or may not be aware of it.

Two processes that increase the accessibility of schemas are salience and priming. Salience is the degree to which a particular social object stands out relative to other social objects in a situation. The higher the salience of an object the more likely that schemas for that object will be made accessible. For example, if there is one female in a group of seven males, female gender schemas may be more accessible and influence the group’s thinking and behavior toward the female group member. Priming refers to any experiences immediately prior to a situation that caused a schema to be more accessible. For example watching a scary movie at a theatre late at night might increase the accessibility of frightening schemas that affect a person’s perception of shadows and background noises as potential threats.

Social cognition researchers are also interested in how new information is integrated into pre-established schemas, especially when that information is contrary with those pre-established schemas. Pre-established schemas tend to guide attention to new information. People selectively attend to information that is consistent with the schema and ignore information that is inconsistent. This is referred to as a confirmation bias. Sometimes inconsistent information is sub-categorized and stored away as a special case, leaving the original schema intact without any alterations. This referred to as subtyping.

Social cognition researchers are also interested in studying the regulation of activated schemas. It is believed that the situational activation of schemas is automatic, meaning that it is outside the control of the individual. In many situations however, the schematic information that has been activated may be in conflict with the social norms of situation, in which case an individual is motivated to inhibit the influence of the schematic information on their thinking and social behavior. Whether a person will successfully regulate the application of the activated schemas is dependent on individual differences in self-regulatory ability and the presence of situational impairments to executive control. High self-regulatory ability and the lack of situational impairments on executive functioning increase the likelihood that individuals will successfully inhibit the influence of automatically activated schemas on their thinking and social behavior. However, when people stop suppressing the influence of the unwanted thoughts, a rebound effect can occur where the thought becomes hyper-accessible.
