Evolutionists, do you agree that this is the best way to approach a creationist?

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Here’s the approach: let them explain the theory of evolution. If they got it wrong (as they almost certainly will), then there is no reason to debate. You just tell them that they can’t claim a theory to be wrong and in fact not understand it.

Science lovers; agree or disagree?

As for me, I have not yet met a single creationist who truly understands evolution. And my method works well. They get stumped. All that they know about evolution are rhetoric like "survival of the fittest" or so and so.

Since creationism/IDiocy depends on evolution being a caricature of itself, its practically impossible for a creationist to actually grasp the full facts of evolution.
Creationism starts with a massive list of errors about evolution, so, if a creationist managed to learn just how WRONG they are about evolution, its not likely that they’d be able to stay a creationist.
BTW, "evolutionist" is a made up creationist word.

E-learning a new approach in learning?

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

How can you say that E-learning is a new approch for learning?
and with comparison to learning inside the classroom

and how and what does e-learning develops students skill and learning?

It is a new approach to learning in that now is the first time in history it has been available. Learning inside the classroom you are spoon fed what you need to learn, electronic learning you can set your own pace and your subject matter. Also if you bother to learn how to use search engines then you can do your own research and find out the things of relevance to your studies.

Un conscience or SUB conscience?

Sure you asked that right?

I suppose if you actually meant what you asked… the best way would be to knock someone out cold and take notes?

Any ideas on how to find a good research mock proposal topic, probably in stem cells/development?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

It can’t be related to my dissertation work so I can’t use topics I already know a lot about! That’s the biggest problem. So I need to come up with a brand new idea from something I’m not working on. It needs to be in the general area of embryonic stem cells and/or development. At first I was thinking cardiovascular type development but I think I could even expand to different areas of development/differentiation. Usually I come up with my next "line" of research based on what actual research I’m doing, but this must be unrelated. I’m just trying to become an "expert" in every possible field now so I know where the good areas to explore are but that’s like trying to do 100 PhDs at once! I have been reading like crazy but I could sure use some more expert advice. If anyone has any good avenues to explore or papers/groups to watch let me know. Any ideas or suggestions? …How to approach?

Thanks.

I didn’t rely on reviews to find my mock proposal. I read current issues of Science/Nature/Cell/Neuron (or whatever you have at hand) till I found something interesting. Then I just asked what should be done next.

Then you can use reviews of the topic to get you up to speed before you dive into the primary literature concerning the topic you are going to propose.

how do I properly approach a business owner asking to place a donation box in their office?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Well I am working on a project, and I need to get my donation box for a good cause in the locations of local businesses but my question is how the heck do i approach these business owners and ask them to place a donation box in their office?

any suggestions !?

I agree about holding the box in your hand. Let them see it. Explain to them what the good cause is and how long you would like to have the box in their office and then ask if that would be okay with them.

How did Mendel’s approach to answering scientic question differ from that of his contemporaries?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

How did hi novel approach contribute to his success in describing how traits are inherited?
What advantange did he enjoy by choosing to study the garden pea?
Describe the six major concluding principles Mendel hypothesized from his work. Answer in 300 words.
If you could answer today that would be great this is a great question. That I am having troble on.

Mendel probably fudged his data. He worked with seven different traits controlled by seven different loci, one on each of the seven chromosomes of the pea plant. There was no linkage because of this. The odds of doing this by picking the traits randomly are about one in ten thousand. It is likely that he threw out the data that did not conform to his expectations.

Now that I’ve given you the ability to get a higher grade, you have to read your text and do the bulk of the work yourself, so you can learn what you are supposed to learn.

Natural VS Traditional Approach to Teaching Foreign Language?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

I began teaching in my new school a few months ago. I am teaching Spanish. I learned my language skills from teachers who used textbooks and thoroughly taught grammar and vocabulary. In this way, I have been using the "traditional" approach to teaching a foreign language. Another teacher at my school believes that the natural approach is the way to go and wants me to do that will all students that I teach. I have attempted the natural approach at times, but it doesn’t really work for me. My concern with the natural approach is that students don’t really learn the fundamentals of the language (verb conjugations, how/why adjectives agree in number and gender, etc.) These are things that I feel are important for students to understand as it will help them better understand English. How do people feel about the natural approach? Will using the natural approach help students be more successful in college? Any thoughts?

It seems to me that effective teaching should be a reasonable mix of styles. While the "mechanics" of a language are important, feeling confident in the conversational "natural" use is also important. Students need to feel fluent enough to actually speak to someone. Opportunities should be given for students use and experience a language through short real life interactions. Skits, group projects, games, easy t.v. shows or videos etc. are more enjoyable and can be used to introduce or reinforce themes before delving into the textbook version of grammar and vocabulary. The language needs a chance to live. Both aspects must be integrated in order for students to be successful.
