how do I properly approach a business owner asking to place a donation box in their office?

Well I am working on a project, and I need to get my donation box for a good cause in the locations of local businesses but my question is how the heck do i approach these business owners and ask them to place a donation box in their office?

any suggestions !?

I agree about holding the box in your hand. Let them see it. Explain to them what the good cause is and how long you would like to have the box in their office and then ask if that would be okay with them.

Hold the box in your hand and say, "can I put this box in your office?"

Good answers already – it’s just like cold calling and prospecting – it’s a numbers game.

The only difference is if it’s for a good project, people will be more inclined to listen. Four things will happen
    1) they will put the box out for you
    2) they will put the box out for you AND donate some money
    3) they will not put the box out but donate some money
    4) they will not put the box out nor donate any money

75% success rate for any one shot … not bad.

    How do you do it?
Just go in and say "Hi, do you guys allow donation boxes to be placed here?" … don’t ask to see the manager first, I’d say if you ask this first that will be the most effective

be ready with a 3 to 5 minute pitch if needed :)
