Regarding nature versus nurture, which one, in your opinion, has the strongest influence on development? How will your belief about nature versus nurture impact your approach to teaching?

I had the same question posed to me while in college. I chose nuture because my half-sister has a very similar worldview as my father because he raised her (although he is not her biological father). However, as a mother of twins, I see that two children in the same environment are fundamentally different – even from the second they were born.

As a teacher with over 10 years in the classroom, I have to say that to ignore the value of either is a handicap to yourself and your students. You must teach your students based on their natural intellectual abilities and learning styles. To engage your students, you have to appeal to their background and recognize that the value that a family places on education results in the passion that most students feel for your subject. You will get your teaching fulfillment by helping students achieve beyond their natural potential on a daily basis. Your biggest frustration will be the many students with natural potential that don’t see a need to fulfill it because of their "nurturing" home life. Rarely, you will pull a kid out of that situation – but cherish it!

why nowadays prototyping is considered as a vital approach for a successful system development?

Because you can test a small part – or a scale model – and see if your idea works. In this way you only invest a fraction of the money to see if the idea/system could work.

If you didn’t test until you built a full scale model/program, and your whole idea or algorithm was wrong, you would have wasted a lot of time and money.

What are the main differences between Freud and Erikson’s approaches to child development?

Object oriented software is rapidly displacing conventional software development such as structure approach.?

yet like all technologies. What critics have to say about oo ang why they believe care must be taken when applying the oo paradigm.

OO *is* conventional software development, and has been for a number of years now. I don’t know of any new commercial software being developed that doesn’t adhere to OO principles (except some experimental or prototypal software whose very purpose is to employ a technique other than OO) – only legacy maintenance like mainframe work still hanging around doesn’t implement OO, and even then sometimes OO principles are still used to an extent when planning new changes to the software.

OO allows for far superior extensibility, maintenance and modification to software; shorter development times and much more complex software with fewer development resources. All this comes at the expense of efficiency. Software designed with OO is going to hog more memory and take more CPU cycles to accomplish tasks. But in the modern computing age, storage and processor speeds are no longer concerns when writing software. So, under typical circumstances, there is essentially no reason not to employ OO.

Give me an expample to differentiate Top down approach and bottom approach of software development?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Many times I get confused to distinguish top down and bottom up approach. Suppose I am considering C and C++ what are the points where I can focus on Bottom apporach of C and top down approach of C++.

in top down approach u first define the entire prblm, define the modules, then classes, objects and finaly the logical operaitons and codes r done. ie from the application level to the primitive level.

in botom up u first define a define a section or part and develop as such, and finaly combine to the whole program, as far as i kno..

i would suggest using a content management system. you get some free open-source ones like Drupal. go to www.drupal.org for more info!

why does sustainable development call for a multi-sectoral and multi-disciplinary approach?

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

While there are many products, processes that are sustainable, when you talk about sustainable development holistically, everything is tied together. Sustainable landscaping is required to support a low water use/sustainable plumbing and irrigation infrastructure. Sustainable building materials require recycling of previously used materials. A sustainable community would require mass transportation infrastructure to truly support the ideal. Sustainable lighting systems will require architecture that supports daylight harvesting. Sustainable air conditioning systems require proper use of suns heating and natural shading. Everything is tied together.

LEED design standards incorporate all factors of sustainability and you will not achieve certification unless you earn points in multiple areas.
