The Scientific Method

Friday, April 16th, 2010

1. Theory attempts to explain an individual fact or a group of facts. Facts are real and theory takes facts and makes certain assumptions to answer questions about an event or set of circumstances.

2. Logic by itself becomes almost useless unless the evidence used to support it is gathered in a way that somehow utilizes the scientific method. The scientific method gives some assurance that the logic has some basis in fact. By implementing the scientific method we have a better opportunity to formulate logical inferences and claims.

3. Scientists aim to base their conclusions in fact. Offering personal experience or common sense as evidence of an occurrence don’t fit within the scientific method and therefore is not accepted by scientists as evidence. Also, by trying to assume a cause of an event because a set of facts related to the event occurred at the same time as the event is a level of reasoning not acceptable to scientists.

Learn the piano

Friday, April 16th, 2010

One way to learn how to play piano is from a piano teacher. You need to find a reliable and qualified piano teacher to ensure that you’re given good lessons. The teacher can give you lessons at home or in a studio. Choose a comfortable set up so that you can learn without feeling any pressure. If you’re reason in learning to play the instrument is simply for fun, hiring a piano teacher is not a good idea. You can opt for less expensive means like a piano book or CDs and DVDs.

You have to ask the piano teacher if he or she is teaching the chord-based lessons. You have to set realistic goals first before you find a good piano teacher.

Enhanced Strategy Usage

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Enhanced metacognitive ability means enhanced strategy use. To accomplish the task of developing your child’s metacognitive ability, I have outlined four specific recommendations that should be implemented immediately. The first is one of direct instruction. There must be a specific time and place where metacognitive awareness and learning strategies are taught by teachers to the students. Clearly the more knowledge each student has about the different aspects of metacognitive awareness, the more familiar they will become with the multiple learning strategies. The direct instruction approach also provides a forum for students should they not fully understand the application of a strategy to ask questions for additional clarification.

Gear to protect you on a motorcycle…

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Here is a short list of some of the gear and equipment you may be well-advised to use if you are a motorcycle rider.

1. Helmet: This is the most important piece of equipment you need. In Washington State, if you are riding a motorcycle, it is mandatory to wear a Department of Transportation approved helmet. When you choose a helmet, look for the DOT label on the helmet. There are several novelty helmets in the market. Stay away from them. They offer no protection in the event of a crash.

2. Eye protection: Most motorcycles do not have windshields. So it is important that riders protect their eyes against insects, dirt or other airborne matter. Choose good quality goggles, glasses with plastic or safety lenses or a helmet with a face shield. Whatever you use for eye protection must be scratch free, shatter-proof and well-ventilated to prevent fogging up.

3. Clothing: What you wear should provide some degree of protection from abrasion and road rash in the event you fall off the motorcycle. Clothing should be made with durable material such as synthetic material or leather. Jackets should have long sleeves. Trousers should be full-length. Avoid baggy or flared pants to prevent entanglement with the chain, kick starter, foot pegs or other motorcycle parts.

4. Gloves: It is recommended that you wear gloves that are durable and non-slip. Leather gloves are perfectly suited.

5. Footwear: You need footwear that protects your feet, ankles and lower parts of the legs. Leather boots are ideal. Sandals or sneakers should not be used since they offer no protection from abrasion or a crushing impact.

6. Colorful or reflective clothing: It is always good to be seen on the roadway. Some riders use reflective orange or yellow vests to cover their jackets. Reflective material may also be used on clothing, the helmet and the motorcycle. Remember, that a majority of motorcycle crashes occur because the driver of the other vehicle failed to see the motorcyclist in time to avoid the collision.

New law may make roads safer…

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

The new law, if passed, would also require drivers to move out of the far right lane as long as it is safe. Also, drivers who operate their vehicles recklessly in those zones could face a $5,000 fine and lose their license for two months. It is not known yet when this law would go into effect. However, Washington State Patrol officials would be responsible for educating and informing drivers about the law before they start writing out these citations.

As a Washington auto accident lawyer, I’m absolutely in support of this law. This law is necessary to keep these first responders, who are the first to get to the scene of an accident on the highway, safe and secure so they can do their jobs. Anyone who has had their vehicle break down on the highway knows that it can be a very scary place. A lot of times, motorists are negligent, driving recklessly or simply not paying attention to their surroundings.

As Students Socioeconomic State Rises So Do Scores

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

It is further hypothesized that as each student rises in socioeconomic class, there is a subsequent rise in test score. Many factors account for these hypotheses including a student’s life conditions brought on by their socioeconomic status. Also, each student’s access to educational resources and professional assistance is major factor in the relationship between class and test achievement. Another characteristic of the most at-risk youth is that this particular individual is raised in an environment of financial instability. Living a life at or below the poverty level has an adverse impact on an adolescent’s educational interests. This impact manifests itself in two distinct ways. The first is in the area of professional care and assistance in the areas of tutoring and test preparation resources.

My Passion for Educating People

Monday, April 12th, 2010

I have a tremendous passion for educating people and I firmly believe that if a mastery goal orientation is to be cultivated, a connection must exist between each student and the material where the student can clearly identify how it benefits them. While this is not the only step, I am convinced it is a major one. I believe either most mastery-oriented students have a tremendous passion for a particular subject or area of study or they have a strong desire to learn. These factors combined with the suggestions offered by Ames in an effort to increase the facilitation of a mastery goal orientation among students are helpful and practical.

How To Address an Over Aggressive Child

Monday, April 12th, 2010

What are the procedures you will follow to address the problem?
First, I would address the issue of Bruce’s classmates calling him names by using punishment to discourage the behavior I want to eliminate. Next, I would aim to curb his physical behavior by first offering a punishment. Then I would incorporate the Premack Principle to motivate him to participate fully in his academics while stopping his aggressive behavior with his classmates so that he may continue to play football. As a group, I would teach new and applicable learning and study techniques to Bruce and his classmates so he can learn other alternatives to rote memorization and repetition to improve their self-confidence. Finally, I would have Bruce’s parents more involved and encourage them to reinforce him at home when he exhibits good academic behavior even more than they reinforce his good performance on the football field.

At Risk Youth

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

A characteristic of students considered the most at-risk youth is that these particular individuals are raised in an environment of financial instability. Living a life at or below the poverty level has an adverse impact on an adolescent’s educational interests. This impact manifests itself in two distinct ways.
The first is in the area of professional care and assistance in the areas of tutoring and test preparation resources. The families of the youth in economically deprived neighborhoods rarely have access to test-prep materials outside of the classroom and often times must rely on ill equipped libraries for assistance and much needed guidance.

Research Design

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

The comparative approach will indicate the differences/similarities that account for the discrepancy in standardized testing results among varying ethnic groups and social classes.
Research Design
The strategy utilized for the study will focus on a two-prong approach characterized by survey results and family/student self reports. Initially, a survey will be circulated via the internet to a sample of 3,000 Texas teachers asking that they provide responses to ten (10) multiple-choice questions specifically designed to access their experience with adolescents across multiple ethnicities and social classes.
As an incentive for participating, each respondent will received a free e-book entitled Auto responders for Education. From these results, an ample will consist of four hundred fifty high school students (ideally an equal distribution of males and females, i.e. twenty-five (25) males and twenty-five (25) females) of varying backgrounds and ethnicities will be selected to participate in the study.
