Is the US judicial system supposed to be corrective or punishing?

If the US judicial system is supposed to be based on a corrective approach rather them a punishing approach where does the constitution or other hard evidence back this up?

Are you talking about the criminal justice system? Very often it is neither, because many who commit crimes are never made to account for them.

There are several goals to the judicial system. For some examples, read the preamble to the constitution. Those are some of the goals of every branch of state and federal government.
