What do you think about a National Sale tax to bail out the Medicare System?

What if we had a 1 cent sale tax through out the nation to raise revue to help bail out the Medicare System?

Then after we get that paid off, why not use the same sale tax idea to bail out Social Security System?

This would be a common sense approach?

the idea of having EVERYONE that buys something contribute to the mess is a good one…Local 1 cent Sales taxes have worked well all over this nation….this way EVERYONE that buys ANYTHING helps to get us out of this mess

the point made in several answers is that it would never end – it would go up…..Fix that in the language of the bill BEFORE it is passed

And also addressing some more of your answers that you have received….those in politics need to LEAD the way in the spending CUTS in their political office (salary – office staff – travel expenditures – etc…..)YES they DO…… HOWEVER….we can not WAIT for these politicians to LEAD us down a financial responsible path….We the People are the ones that shall take the lead…..

    Here is the problem…..10 years from now that 1 cent sales tax would be 10 cents and keep going up year over year

    You want a common sense approach? Obama has stated many times that there is $5 Billion dollars wasted in the medicare system every year. Investigate and put a stop to that. Then we can look at where we are. Increasing taxes first is just a means of avoiding issues.

    It would not stay one cent. It would not be used for what is supposed to be used for. I would not object too loudly if the govt cut costs first. Money is wasted on pig poop research, extravagant travel for congressmen, ridiculous super bowl ads regarding the census. If they want to get me on board, they need to start acting responsibly

    If you have termites in your house you don’t remodel and cover it up. You get rid of the termites. If there is wasteful spending of monies, or persons getting medicare that should not get it, stop it. Investigate deeper into the claims. The working class in the United States can not afford more taxes.
