Song Learner Lesson – Beautiful One (Sample)

Monday, September 14th, 2009

This video clip is the first half of a lesson teaching Tim Hughes’ song Beautiful One. Go to our webstore to download the full lesson http://www.musicademy.com/store

This lesson is taken from one of three new DVDs for acoustic guitarists called the “Song Learner Series”. Each lesson is also available as a download and there are lots of FREE online resources in the members area on the website – just login to join up.

Each of the 2-hour DVDs contain six or seven 12-20 minute lessons teaching you to play a contemporary worship song.

Songs featured include Everlasting God, Beautiful One, The Father’s Song and Facedown as well as a number of challenging hymns – In Christ Alone and David Crowder’s beautiful arrangement of All Creatures of Our God and King.

The idea of the Song Learner Series is to enable you to master the guitar parts played on the original record, note for note, and as such significantly enhance your playing. In each lesson you will learn how to:
Master the right strumming pattern for the song
Find easy ways to play complex chords
Get the right rhythm and pacing
Learn the one finger “cheat” chords that the professionals use to make your playing sound smooth
Develop great finger picking
Plus hints, tops and techniques you can use in other songs

The Song Learner DVDs are presented by Andy Chamberlain. Andy’s accessible teaching approach breaks each section of the song into bite-sized chunks, helps you play it through a few times and then bolts it together with the rest of the song, step-by-step so that you get each sequence into muscle memory. The Song Learner Series is designed to help you play more songs using the technical principles taught on the Musicademy Worship Guitar Course DVDs.

The nature of headaches.

Because we are compressing existence, compressing reality. We are literally taking everything of you, within you and compressing it. Compress, compress compress, compress so that everything of each and every human being is here, at all times. So that there doesn’t jump out a little twitch there… and then you kind of, as you walk in your process, you have to fall at that one point, and then you have to start, literally after maybe 2,3 or 7 years, your process all over again. Because then only later you discover, “oh , I missed that point because I missed that one singular point, I have to start all over again,” and then everything comes back ten fold, and you have to walk through it again.

So in compressing also everything here, as you walk and as you transcend, as you realize, as you understand, as you live, as you apply self-forgiveness, as you walk, you transcend “more” and your process goes “faster”. So everything is here. So, and as we compress, headaches will occur. Extensive headaches. Why? Umm…when you experience headaches, uhhh…you have to go back seven days. Why…? Because in that seven days, because of the intensifying of compression, especially those who are in process at the moment. Because as we intensify your process, as you are becoming more aware of yourself, and we’re compressing at the same time. When you have a head ache, you know, uh oh, I’ve missed specific points in my process during this week of specific thoughts that have continued, that I haven’t payed attention to, but which I allowed. And it’s usually one line of thought. Only one line of thought. You have to go back and look at your week, look at from…Let’s say you take a wednesday and from the wednesday previously, you have to look at what did you participate in during that week. What was your behavior? What was your words? How did you experience yourself? And you will pinpoint a specific experience within yourself, that you have allowed during that week, and that you did not pay attention to, but you allowed because it’s so much “part of you”, apparently. But it’s actually a part of your mind.

And because you’ve missed it, and because of the compression at the same time, you’ll get a headache. Because that point is of a mind construct, and your head is basically…that headache is basically showing to you, because of the compression, you’ve missed a point, you have to walk through that point to let this headache go. Personally, I’d rather have it be a headache, after a week, than have it be a year, and then an experience occur, and then realize “oh , that’s the point I missed”. So that’s what the difference makes with the entire compression scenario.
