Does Snoring Mean That I Suffer From Sleep Apnea ?

Snoring is very common indeed and it is estimated that as many as forty percent of all adults snore to a greater or lesser degree. In many cases of course people have no idea that they snore, unless they have a sleeping partner to let them know. Men also suffer more from snoring than women.

Snoring is present in almost all cases of sleep apnea and arises because this particular sleep disorder causes you to stop breathing during sleep and the brain then ‘kick starts’ you into breathing again. It is this sudden re-start of your breathing which is almost always accompanied by snoring.

Snoring is thus indeed a symptom of sleep apnea. However, there are also many other reasons for snoring and so snoring by itself certainly does not indicate the presence of sleep apnea
